Horse Racing
There are live horse races to bet on. If you’re new to horse racing, begin your adventure at the Guest Care Counter, where they would help you to get you started on the right foot.
Admission is always free and supervised children are always welcome. Most race nights begin at 6:30 p.m. and offer 10 – 12 races. The night usually concludes by 10:00 p.m.
Race nights often feature special events. The Tarmac Show is offered each night, inviting guests and broadcast viewers to win, learn and laugh between the races.
To take part in horse race get the Race programs (the booklets used for wagering/betting) that can be purchased from the guest care counter located just inside the sliding doors in the main building. You can also purchase a program from the Gift Shop (directly across from the guest care counter).
There are many locations where you can place your wager. Visit the tellers on the mutuel line downstairs in the simulcast lounge, upstairs outside of the Captain’s Quarters, inside the Captain’s Quarters and on Friday nights the Tarmac has tellers available. New bettors or bettors who would like to have an intro session with guest care staff can place bets at the guest care counter. There are also self-serve betting machines placed throughout the facility.
Other games and activities
Since 2005, Grand River Raceway has partnered with the Rotary Club of Fergus-Elora to present monthly bingos, which have raised more than $400,000 for important community initiatives Play bingo as doors open at 11:00 a.m. and the caller starts at 1:00 p.m.

Dinning and Shopping
There are several dining options at the comfort of the Captain’s Quarters tiered dining room, ranging from their trackside BBQ to buffet dining overlooking the racetrack. Choose from three restaurants or a Tarmac BBQ burger-and-beer after the races, nightcap with Lady Luck at the OLG Slots.
The Lighthouse Restaurant is located in the race paddock and open to the public on race nights, the Lighthouse Restaurant is a bright, spacious eatery which offers casual dining and a licensed trackside patio only feet away from where the horses enter the racetrack.
Nightly specials are homemade with love by chef, Emma Brook. The Lighthouse Restaurant also offers a large selection of fresh concession-style fingerfoods. Doors open at 5:00 pm and dinner service begins at 5:15 pm.
The Getaway Restaurant is open year-round and offers a wide range of delicious a la carte dishes and Sunday Brunch. The full-service restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The Gift Shop
Conveniently located inside the front doors of the main building, the Lottery & Gift Shop at Grand River Raceway is packed to the rafters with treasures. You can pop in for lottery tickets or a snack, and stay to browse their wide array of gift items that includes jewelry, scarves, purses, home décor and more.
