There are plans for the opening of a new $36-million casino in Chatham on Canada Day. The Municipality of Chatham-Kent will have an added celebration on Canada Day with the opening of a new casino. This partnership that’s been developed with the municipality from the infancy stage of the project is evident by the fact construction is ahead of schedule as finishes are being applied to exterior of the new casino which should be fully sealed when large glass sections are installed within a few weeks. This casino will be operated by Gateway Casinos & Entertainment.
According to Robert Principe, project manager with BLT Construction Services , the firm contracted to build the 45,000-square-foot facility the finish stage of the project will begin about mid-March, which should take about four months. If all goes well, this could be reduced to three-and-a-half months, he added. Principe said the original target completion date was Aug. 15 and “right now they are tracking for July 1st 2019.
While some people have concerns about a larger casino being built, there has been mostly positive comments about the project as this is adding 200 jobs and it’s going to keep people here in Chatham-Kent that would otherwise go other places to do the gambling, so it’s going to add a lot to the Chatham-Kent economy.
Staff currently working at the slots facility in Dresden, will have the opportunity to move over to Chatham. The planning for hiring and training new staff has already begun, and noting interviews are taking place for key management positions.

The casino will feature 333 slots and 12 gaming tables along with its signature restaurants, Match Eatery & Public House and The Buffet. All the restaurants are designed to be family-friendly. Cascades Casino Chatham will feature a wide selection of modern video slots, electronic roulette terminals and tables games including popular games like Roulette and Blackjack.
